Don’t be confused – this is, in fact, my July newsletter, but since I publish on the full moon – the most beautiful deadline – it’s arriving in your inbox a couple days early. Look up at 7:59 this evening to see the glorious Strawberry Moon rise into the night sky.
If you haven’t had a chance to stop by already, head to Morgan Lehman to see the big “Twenty by Sixteen” exhibition, which is on view through July 31. Sixty artists each have two 20 x 16-inch pieces in the show, hung in a grid. You will find my paintings in the gallery’s new space across the hall from the original space. On Saturday, July 18, at 2 pm, I’ll be giving a casual talk at Prince Street Gallery about their 18th Annual Juried Exhibition. I was invited to be the juror this year, and I plan to talk about the selection process as well as the work. I haven’t seen the installation, but I suspect it is unavoidably overhung – though I had to reject hundreds of pieces, I also selected an abundance of them. The exhibition is on view July 7 through July 25, with a reception on July 9 from 6-8 pm. Location: 547 West 27th Street, 5th floor, Suite 504, New York, NY
From July 19–25, Vermont artist Corrine Yonce will be in residence at Two Coats of Paint. She will be arranging studio visits, and her Open Studio will take place on Wednesday, July 22, from 5–7 pm. Please stop by and say hello. Studio mate Chris Joy and I will be sharing some new work, too. Stay tuned for more details about Corrine’s work on Two Coats of Paint. This week marks the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. I keep reminding myself that the country has survived worse than this doddering, malignant president and his dangerous self-dealing capos. Maybe that’s something worth celebrating? I’m looking forward to the Mashantucket Pequot fireworks extravaganza, which, understandably, is not on July 4th itself, and the inaugural New London Folk Fest at the Hygienic Art Park. Both take place on Saturday, July 11, in downtown New London, on the water. Let’s hope for a nice sea breeze.
